We will have a class at our Learning Center on Saturday morning, Aug. 6th at 10:00 AM.

Topics to be covered are (1) a tour of our web site, (2) a tour of BridgeScore.com, (3) an introduction to the Bridge Software on the Learning Center Computer and (4) a Question and Answer session for any computer related questions or problems.

If you would like to attend the class at another time, please sign up at the Learning Center (there is a sign up sheet on the desk) and indicate a preferred date and time.   (Posted July 30, 2005)

Learning Center Announced

The club is establishing a new Learning Center for you on our Backup Computer.  A logical extension of our Library, the Learning Center will have Bridge Software that you can use.  It is also a good way to test drive a software package before you buy it.  In addition, mini-classes will be offered covering our Web Site and Discussion Page, BridgeScore web site, ACBL web site, E-mailing and other topics on interest to you.

The Learning Center is an evolving concept and we will endeavor to incorporate your ideas and needs.   If you have Bridge Software that you no longer use at home and would like to donate it to the club, we would be most grateful.  Because of copyright laws, we can accept original disks only (no copies please).

Getting Started at the Learning Center

The Learning Center is another avenue to learning about Bridge and our Bridge Club via computers and the Internet.  On the computer, there are a variety of software packages for learning Bidding, Defense, Play of the Hand and many conventions.  In addition, there are a number of programs such as Bridge Baron that play Bridge.  Over time, we hope to have a large number of Bridge related software installed on the Learning Center Computer for our members to use, to test drive or just to satisfy their curiosity.  As needed, we will offer mini-training sessions (even one-on-one training) to enable our member to use this software.

On the Internet, a variety of web sites exist which are of interest to our club members especially our Club Web site (www.daytonabridge.org) and BridgeScore.com, where our daily results are posted.  In addition, the ACBL web site and associated District and Unit Web Sites have a wealth of information available to our members including member master points, master point races, tournaments and tournament results, club locations, and news.  As needed, we will offer mini-tours of these web sites to:  (1) make members aware of what is available; (2) demonstrate new features; and (3) answer specific questions.

To fully utilize the computer and the Internet, we realize the need for basic computing skills and will offer, on request, short courses in Windows, E-mail, and other topics as the needs arise.

* To start using the Learning Center, please take one or more of the following steps:

  • To try the software, turn on the computer and go.

* To help with the Learning Center, please take one or more of the following steps:

  • Help someone use the Learning Center

  • Volunteer to teach and train others

  • Donate Bridge Software you no longer use to our Club (Original Disks please, no copies)

  • Use the Learning Center and tell us how to make it better and more useful

  • Buy Bridge Software and support the industry!
